I certainly have mixed feelings about this, I am worried it is a sad way to rehash and reboot the franchise.
Trekdom I feel has been in decline from when DS9 ended and Stargate then took over as the leading scifi show.
It’s been nearly 10 years from when DS9 ended and that is a long time in the minds of T.V. audiences and a new generation of kids grew up with their parents not watching voyager or enterprise cos lets face it they were crap. Even Q could not inject life into voyager and enterprise was a lame as it’s opening song, ( which had lyrics!!!!)

So new Trek which is old Trek re imagined ( Gods I HATE that term) with new younger actors.

Yup Mr Lost is invovled with this one, is he a Josh Weldon clone or is there some sort of secret rite where
the new golden boy of t.v. is crowned and the networks install them on a throne and suck out all their
creative ideas ( no matter how lame ) and work them to death until the break and can only write musicals ?

Also some chars transcend who ever plays them, yes each actor adds flavour but the chars are larger then they are and live and breath for generations and many different performances like Hamlet ( except when played by mel gibson, mental floss please! ) who really was the first big procrastinating emo.

Are Bones, Scott, Uhura ( who’s back story was wonderful but never used in ST:TOS, Michele Nichols Bio is a wonderful read. ) Spock, Checkov Epic enough ? They are not The Doctor certainly but will this end up looking like and feeling like high end fanboy indulgence;
as those who just about remember ST:TOS the first times around in it’s first syndication runs are staring to feel old and want to relive their youth ?

I don’t know, I most likely will give it a watch to see what has been done with it; most likely a mid week early afternoon showing which will be mostly empty so my groans and hysterical giggles don’t get me ejected.

P.S. it’s, not, Kirk! but Capt Pike we get to see before he ends up in a darlek halfshell and having sex with a human female for aliens with Bum heads to ‘observe’ no doubt for their own version of hysterical giggles.

A woman was killed by the coffin of her late husband in a traffic accident.

Marciana Barcelos, aged 67, was sat in the front of the hearse on the way to a cemetery in Sao Paulo, Brazil when it was hit from behind by another car.

The coffin shot forward and hit her in the head, killing her instantly.

New report highlights gender bias

Women are leaving college with better results than men and are more likely to find jobs on graduation but are still being paid less, according to new research.

A report from the Higher Education Authority (HEA) has found women more likely to achieve first class honours in degree programmes in almost every third level faculty.
It found they were more likely to be employed nine months after graduation.

However, male graduates are twice as likely as females to be earning over €45,000. Women are also over represented in the lowest salary brackets.
The HEA says the study shows a gender bias in salaries in favour of males continues to persist.
The report looked at the experience of more than 23,000 students who graduated in 2006 from universities and other third level institutions.

But yet most female college graduates would no consider themselves to be feminist or that feminism has any relevance to them what so ever.

Fine Gael calls for reversal of cervical cancer vaccine programme cut

Fine Gael is to use its private members’ time today to raise the issue of cervical cancer vaccines.

The party is calling on the Health Minister to reverse her decision to cut the vaccination programme.

Health Spokesperson Dr James Reilly said he finds it unconscionable that Mary Harney would cut a life-saving programme for minimal savings.

THE GOVERNMENT has abandoned a plan announced just three months ago to have all 12-year-old girls vaccinated against a virus that causes cervical cancer, citing “very scarce” health resources.

Minister for Health Mary Harney said yesterday that the economic situation had “rapidly and seriously” deteriorated since the plan was announced in August.

The human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccination would have cost an estimated €9.7 million annually. Between 70 and 80 women with cervical cancer die in Ireland each year and some 200 new cases are diagnosed.

The decision was immediately criticised by the Opposition and by the Irish Cancer Society, which asked the Government to make a clear commitment to restore the vaccination scheme “at the earliest possible opportunity”.

In a statement, Ms Harney said: “Public resources, including those for health, are very scarce indeed and will remain so.

“I have decided that the best that can be achieved in these circumstances is to prioritise funding for the development of the cervical screening programme and treatment services at the eight designated cancer centres, which includes the challenge of funding very expensive cancer drugs.

“I will not therefore be proceeding with the introduction of a HPV vaccination programme,” she added.

Later Ms Harney told reporters that the Health Service Executive had not been able to say how much the procurement cost for the vaccine would be.

But the Minister said that the administration cost, set out by the HSE was “not inconsiderable”.

Irish Cancer Society chief executive John McCormack said the decision was “very disappointing”.

“If this is going to be the beginning of a pattern around hard-fought decisions being reversed, the Irish Cancer Society would be awfully concerned about it,” Mr McCormack added.

Oh all the short sighted things to do, personally I am very annoyed over this and have already emailed my T.D.s and signed two online petitions one of which is being run by today fm.

70 women a year die of cervical cancer, many more have to under go surgery, chemo and many many
smear tests, laser treatment and internal exams.

oth brats came home with their certs for 100 merits.
They can get 5 per day ergo 25 a week, but incomplete homework, lateness,
misbehaviour and being absent costs/looses them merits.

So week 6 of school and they both have more then enough merits and got their certs. I am so happy and relieved. With my daughter being now in the snr school I was worried she would get the cert and her older brother wouldn’t but it turns out he is on par with her and the rest of the class with the merits for the first time in 2 years. He is very pleased with himself and is just glowing with self confidence.

They also have no home work which is wonderful and due to my sinus being painful their Dad is paying for take out for dinner as a celebration ( this something we rarely get ). They choose pizza and will be annoying the staff of the local dominoes with what they want on their personal pizza’s and I don’t have to cook.

Happy kids and less hassle I guess this day does have a silver lining.

Funny how people make their entrances and exits in your life.
For some it is death and birth, this time 3 years ago my Gran died, some days that doesn’t seem that long ago at all but when I think of my niece, the first 10 months of her life and it seems like a very long time and so much has changed.

Some people wander eventually into your life, some march in directly, some are on the edges and then one say you are not sure how or when they just are in your life.

I guess people leave the same way, people drift or grow apart or get out of the habit of being in touch. Some march out on their own, following their own dreams and in pursuit of their happiness, which can take them as far away as the other side of the globe or the next country over but as long as they are well and happy then I am happy for them.

Some don’t as much as march out but storm out full of threats and thunder and dragging other’s in their wake, be it right away or sometimes later, and while there is always 3 sides to everything, yours, theirs and the truth, time has taught me for the most part in the long run, me and my life are better off with out them.

Life is change and people change, eps those who are looking to grow, evolve and learn about themselves. Some times those learning and growing experiences are hard and painful and being in touch with others who were impacted also by those experiences can be helpful and other times it can be the exact opposite and you have to move on from having them in your life in order to move on.
