I know know it is Pink! but is for a such needed cause.

I don’t do the pink thing esp the vibrant pink as anyone who knows me is aware.
But there are times when I will associate myself with things that are pink.
The breast cancer awareness and fund raising for mammograms is one of those causes I will suffer pink for.

I do have a sliver version of the breast cancer ribbon on a sliver chain which was bought for me by my father.
Last year he bought one for all this daughters, there are cases of cancer in the family of various types,
his sister died of cancer and a double mastectomy didn’t save her. He asked me to mind myself and get check ups not just for his peace of mind or my own sake but for the sake of my children esp as I am now over 30 so that they will have me in their lives for as long as possible.
This month he travelled to my cousins wedding and watch the son of his sister who passed away get married, which was a sad and joyous occasion.

Every woman should know how to do a breast check the same as every man should know how to to a ball check.
When it comes to lumps and cancer the sooner you get it seen to by a dr the more options you have.

Ireland has a shocking rate of both breast cancer and of cervical cancer. There is not the services there should be to make sure that the medical check ups are done and the correct results are delivered promptly.

A passenger was today forced to control a double decker bus as it swerved across a road and ploughed into the garden wall of a house, an eyewitness said.

The man in his 20s desperately tried to grab the vehicle’s steering wheel when the female driver appeared to slump forward.

The driver of the 121 route bus and the two passengers onboard at the time were taken to hospital to be treated for shock.

Dublin Bus and the gardaí have launched separate investigations into the collision which occurred at the junction of Clonard Road and Kildare Road at around 9.15am.
Describing the incident, a female eyewitness said: “There was a young lad trying to take control of the bus. He was trying his best but he couldn’t. I don’t think the driver knew where she was. “By that time it had hit the front wall and partly into the front garden. “There was an old lady on the bus and she was screaming because the bus was swerving all over the place.”Dublin Bus declined to comment on the nature of the injuries suffered by the driver or the cause of the incident ahead of a comprehensive accident report.

“A team of accident investigators from Dublin Bus examined the scene and the crashed vehicle before it was towed away,“ a spokeswoman said.

“Our investigators will also examine all witness statements and CCTV footage in the area to help us compile our report.”

About 4% of Dublin Bus drivers are currently female.

The eyewitness also described that panic descended upon the scene after the bus hit the wall.

“It was just panic. Everybody started running. Everybody tried to help. The driver was actually in the cab but nobody could get her out.

“A man got a screwdriver and was able to open the driver’s cab and get out the driver.”

Two fire engines and two ambulances attended the scene as well as the gardaí.

Why did they have to mention the stats on what % of the bus drivers are female ?
Seriously why ?
It was an accident and I am sure that it will be investigated but really why was the gender of the driver important enough to mention the % ?
Was it to make people feel safer by saying that there is only 4% of drivers are women there for linking the inncedent to her gender ?
When a bus driver killed people with a bus on Wellington quay it was just a bus driver and the fact he was male was not highlighted or that there are if my maths are correct 96% of all bus drivers are male.

Is it worth it ?

I had a door to door sales’person’ call to the house yesterday, which was surprising in it’s self as usually they tend to be sales’men’.
This one was trying to interest me in a line of cosmetics which had be put together by some desginer.
Clearly the lack of enthusiasm displayed by me spurred her to press on tell me it was part of the Clinique range of cosmetics.
I then told her that I was certainly not intrested in any of L’Oreal’s products due to their lack of ehtics in their research and testing; she seemed very confused and explained very slooowly and clearly that it was Clinique products she had.

I then explained just as slooowly and clearly that Clinique was owned by L’Oreal*
and I like a guilt free shower knowing that what is in the shower with me was not poured into the eye of a rabbit strapped into a cage
or that the mascara I would wear on a night out was not rubbed on the inside of the eyelids of the rabbit beside the first one.
I guess she didn’t think too much before taking such a job.

Yes L’Oreal has of late be looking for a work around animal testing, at least for skin testing** but until they come up with a way to replicate a mammalian eye the spraying, dripping and smearing of beauty products will go on.

Which makes the fact that The Body Shop was sold to L’Oreal last march hard to stomach and caused protests in many countries***.
Having been a teen in the late 80s and early 90s I grew up with the body shop adds against animal testing, of classmates coming in
smelling of dewberry and strawberry any my Mam of white musk.

The founder of The Body Shop Sold it with the conditions that it’s ethos remain intact but really she did not have a successor.
She knew she was not going to live for ever has she was living with Hep C from when she gave birth to her daughter in the 70s and needed a transfusion but she set about to change the world she lived in and by the gods achieved a hell of a lot for one person.
The money she did get a lot of it went to finance further good works**** and when she left this world for her next adventure earlier this month the world will have been a better place for being in it. That being said I won’t be supporting The Body Shop.

d

But we would not have LUSH who developed thier range of bath bombs for The body shop and then struck out on their own.
still manages to further the ethics that the body shop first promoted and take it a step further.
But due to their policy of having no marketing or advertising budgets what so ever I very much doubt I will have Lush Salesperson
on my doorstep anytime soon. No scorplett doesn’t count as she doesn’t get paid by Lush.

Ever worried about how green your self abuse is ?
Ever worried about the amount of battery power you used up in a month ?
Ever worried about the harm that your old worn out vibrators were doing to the environment ?

With the new regs on the disposal of electrical items ( yes that includes your vibrator ) for recycling some people welcome this move
but can’t face bringing their old Vibe to the local collection point, where it will be checked before being accepted.

One enterprising site has come up with a plan for this and are offering to be a collection point for old ‘toys’ and as well
as sparing your blushes at the recycling depo they are offering a discount and to donate a small fee to charity.

The secret laughter of women.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0132502

It was a hell of a film , the type which is on late at night and you had never heard of it before and it was filled with fun and deadpan humour to have you in fits of laughter on the couch and staying up until 3am.

Colin Firth ( also known as Colin Flirt ) had just so many wonderful lines.

“Stop looking like an Oxfam poster and come and have some ice cream.”

” Real men knock the handle off”

“And it is their brains and balls that keep the world turning.”

“Honestly, chivalry, integrity and a high body count.”

” Defy authority
Destroy property
Get Laid. “

New rape figures released.

Two new sets of numbers released were today.

One stating that for month of July 39 women attended the Sexual Assault and Treatment Unit (SATU) at the city’s Rotunda Hospital
and for the month of June 31 women were examined.

That is 70 women in the space of two months and that is only in Dublin and only those who came forward for treatment.

http://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/mhcwkfidojmh/

On average out of those who do go to the Rape crises centre and those who do attend the Sexual Assault and Treatment Unit
only 10% will go to the garda.

So out of those 70 women only 7 will look to file reports and start the long and horrible process of helping to compile a file to be submitted to
the dept of prosecution.

The second set of numbers say that 5% of the cases reported to the garda are taken by the DPP to court.

So not even one of those 7 women may get a court date after all the humiliation telling their friends and family and statements and the physical collection of evidence

And having it known with in their community that they were raped.

Currently from the time a person is charged with rape until there is a day in court there is a waiting time of 118 weeks. Yes, weeks that is over two years.

So by the time a victim (who is treated under law as just a witness) gets to testify in court a lot of them will have healed and dealt with the issue to some degree and find all their wounds ripped open again and many can’t face it and ask for the charges to be dropped rather then put themselves and their family through all of this again.
Also all the resleased data is about sexual assualt and rape of women only and men are not factored in to them.

As the ligth declines…

So boards.ie is being used as a resource in my children’s primary school….
My son came home with a print out of the lyrics of a song to learn
On the top of the page was the following url
http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/archive/index.php/t-193397.html
it was also on the bottom of the page with todays date and that time of just after miday.

Weird just doesn’t cover it.
I did question the reason for that ballad and if it was suitable but it is part of getting to know Dublin as it was and as well as learning to sing it they discuss it; from the language to the historical aspects.

Still given the fact the class is pretty mixed I wonder how some of the parents originally from Africa feel about their kids being taught to sing
And I courted Peggy Dignan, as pretty as you please,
A rogue and child of Mary, from the rebel liberties,
I lost her to a student chap, with skin as black as coal,
When he took her off to Birmingham, she took away my soul.
