Busy days or roses and cat shit.

I have been bouncing between suffering with hayfever and just wanting to sleep and watch tv shows and do frankly nowt to being bouncing all over the place. Neither state is conducive to ljing/blogging.

I have a heap of things stuck in draft mode which are either need to get around to finishing or else I feel that was like two weeks ago and I should of finished it and want to post it for my own memory recording of it.

I have been reading a fair bit too, “The end of Mr.Y” which was very kindly lent to me has been a bloody intresting read so much so I have found myself buggering of to look up the facts and concepts referenced in it along side reading it which mean the book which is only 452 pages still isn’t finished yet and considering I can easily read 300+ pages in a day and I’ve had it over two weeks means it has been occupying more of my thought process then it prolly should.
Or maybe it’s meant to as the concepts are one I had been avoiding.

I have planted 4 more rose buses in the front garden, 1 is thriving already, 2 are taking their time and I fear the last one may have died on me. The 3 I planted last year are thankfully thriving and yes last year I did feed them cat shit from the litter tray. Getting roses from shit I think is a wonderful thing and as someone said to me recently “a lady should always have roses” I am endeavoring to sort the supply myself. But until they hopefully all start to bloom I bought some today for myself, and for someone else.

I also planted a blackcurrant bush and a raspberry bush, maybe I will get to make jam this year and tbh with “Maggie” starting to grow up having a good supply of raspberry leaves for tea may be a good idea.

Personal Daily Horoscope of Sunday, 19 April 2009

Independent initiative ***
Valid during many months: This is a time of high energy and independent initiative. You feel very self-confident and capable of tackling almost anything within reason. It is a good time to start a project, and most activities that you take up now should have a successful outcome. However, you must take some positive action in order to get the most out of this influence. It brings you opportunities, but you have to pick them up. However, this should not be much of a problem because this influence usually makes you feel like taking action.

You are unusually clear now about what you intend to do in any situation. Your will is strong, and you aim at achieving certain very definite goals. You can act decisively and with conviction. Under an influence like this you can convince other people of your point of view and get them to follow your lead. In fact, this is an unusually good time for working with other people because you can get others to identify their interests with yours.

Everything you do is aimed at enlarging your sphere of interests. You do not act out of petty motives, always having high-minded and high- level goals in mind. Others will respect your obvious integrity, which will make them more willing to help you.

If you have to go to a court of law at this time, the proceedings should turn out to your benefit. In fact, the chances are that you will be able to work out a compromise that will be advantageous to both parties.

Professional success is likely at this time, because of your excellent sense of timing and your ability to take advantage of every opportunity that comes along. You should be able to advance yourself without alienating others. They will recognize that your success is well deserved.

The interpretation above is for your transit selected for today:

What is Gaelcon?

Ok I know that not every one who reads these insane muttering of mine, know what a gaelcon is.
Most of the people who are friends and who have been in my house do but some don’t and then
there are those people who stumble into this place via boards.ie or other internet tubes.
So for those of you who may not know, this is what Gaelcon is.

Gaelcon is a gathering of gamers, who all come together in a certain place at a certain time for the same reason, to play games and have fun. The average is about 450 from all over Ireland, the U.K. and some as far flung as the U.S.A. and even Israel. This is a tradition which has been on going for the last 20 years. Each October bank holiday weekend for 3 days the convention opens to provide a place were dice are rolled, cards are played, imaginations run riot, old friendships are renewed and new ones forged. Gaelcon welcomes anyone who wants to come and play, there are a large range of games from scheduled events to casual pick up and play games running all weekend.

Gaelcon also run a charity auction which over the past 15 years has raised and donated over €271,000 to many worthy children’s charities. Last year alone just over €21,000 was raised. The slogan for the auction has always been “For the kids” as the gaming community know how much joy can be had in playing games and contributes to trying to help children who’s life’s for what ever reason could use some help to be more fun.

Some of these charities have been:
Barretstown Gang Camp
DEBRA Ireland (the Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association)
The Cari Foundation Children At Risk in Ireland
Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation
Temple Street Children’s University Hospital
Crumlin Children’s Hospital

The charity auction is made entirely up of donations and if you have something which you would like to donate to wards the auction then please use this email address to get in touch with this years charity officer. charity@gaelcon.com

That’s what a Gaelcon is, I have been attending on and off over the last 10 years and am glad to be able to give a hand this year to help organise it; and yes if you have never been to a Gaelcon before or to any gaming convention you will be welcomed when you sit down to play and gamers love to spread the fun and turn another person into a gamer. Personally I love bringing gamer convention virgins along with me to Gaelcon and have managed to do that for the last 4 years.

Gaelcon GM Call

Gaelcon GM Call
Hiya,

It’s that time of year again. I’ve been recruited to be Gaelcon’s GM Wrangler and I’m looking for volunteers.

However, it’s possibly not as straight forward as usual. We’re trying to promote new scenario writers but the problem that they are running into is that they don’t always have a couple of names that they can put forward to run games on the day so what we want to do is get GM’s together with Writers in advance of the con so that if possible they can get a copy of the scenario before the con starts.

This has the obvious benefit that GM’s won’t be handed scenarios just before running the games, which has been highlighted as an ongoing problem over the last couple of weeks on both the i-gaming yahoo group and on the livejournal community.

It will, also, be possible to volunteer on the day but we would like to have as many GMs lined up as possible before we open the doors.

So for those folks who are kind enough to volunteer in advance, we’d like the following information:

Name:
Contact Email Address:

Are you planning to attend the entire con or just one/two days?

What systems are you comfortable GMing?
What systems can you GM in a pinch?

If you want to volunteer, you can email me at deannawol[at]yahoo[dot]com or private message me on livejournal at deannawol? If possible, can you please set the email subject as “GMing at Gaelcon” so that I don’t miss your message.

All contact information will be kept private and don’t worry, I won’t be spamming you. 🙂

Thanks to all who volunteer,
Bon

Schrodinger’s me is having a murphy’s law day.

/headdesk

I woke with a streaming snotty cold.
I have stood on my own toe and nearly fell down the stairs.
I managed to cut, burn scald and drop a mug on the same toe
while making coffee and egg and toast. I also broke a glass
and managed to spill water on the kitchen floor.
My children find this to be hilariously funny.

I have informed my co parent I am hiding out in my bedroom for
the rest of the day and he will have to hunt dinner for a change,
cos it’s just not safe for me out there today.

A wind up ? why yes it is.

A wind up recharging vibrator, based off the same tech as the wind up torches and radios. And what I found even more intresting that was developed here in Ireland by Caden Enterprises.

It is called the earth angel. Having to remember to by or recharge batteries can be something that is often forgotten and it usually happens at the worsest time when you really need to use a sex toy, so it is great to see this option on the market.

But it looks a tad clinical, uninviting and tbh like a vicks inhaler for your Yoni which far from sexy. Hopefully they will bring out a range of jelly sleeves for it in the future making it more friendly and versatile.

Wargames at Gaelcon 2009

Gaelcon 2009 may be some months away, but the members of the Cabinet of Destruction (a group of dedicated wargamers) are already working on making sure the Miniatures games are the best they’ve ever been. And we need you! Gaelcon 2009’s miniatures games events will present a never-seen-before degree of public interaction with the launch of our games questionnaire, giving you the chance to have your voice heard as to what games will be played in what format. all you have to do is download the form from here and either send it back by email to wargames@gaelcon.com or print it out and post it to Gaelcon, PO Box 4345, Dublin 1.

And to Sweeten the deal, if you fill out the form you’ll be entered into a draw for free entry to one event at the con of your choice! All opinions will be gladly welcomed – we want to make Gaelcon 2009 the best one yet and with your help we can achieve that goal.

A changing world.

There are times I look at how much life had changed from when I was the same age as my brats and I find it staggering; then I think in terms of how much it has changed from when my Dad was their age; how strange and fast the world must seem at times to him and wonder will I feel that way when I am in my mid fifties.

Some tech advances come out of the blue and just explode the mobile phone was one of them, I remember when I first started reading Iain M Banks Culture novels pondering the communicator which kept every member of Culture connected and plugged in to the same sprawling data comms array and wondering when such a thing would happen. It has esp with the new generations of handhelds with roaming net access.

Other common use of tech has taken a lot longer for it to filter down into things I see everyday. Solar panels is one of these. The original photovoltaic technology invented in 1955 and there have been now 3 generations of solar cells, but it is only in the last few months I have seen them finally in what I consider to be practical every day use.

I have seen them mounted on the road signs which signal you are approaching a school zone. These signs have amber lights which flash when the schools are letting out children and it’s great to see them change from being hard wired to having solar panels atop them.

tlssp

Solar panels have also been added of late to all the road variable message signs, you know the big orange ones which we have all seen all over the country where there are road works. No longer do they have two car batteries attached to them but instead have a solar panel array.A solar panel roof it was also added to the roof of the toilets in the playground in the millennium park in Blanchardstown but that setup is primarily for heating the water for the toilets but it is great to see it.

Currently there is a call for solar panels to be placed on all schools which I think is a good idea esp when so many of our schools have had to do fund raising over the last two winters just to cover the cost of oil and gas to keep the schools warm enough.

The topic of alternate power supplies has been part of a lot of conversations in this house hold as both my brats are encouraged to listen to the news and read what takes their interest in any newspapers which come into the house. We did take part in earthwatch hour and made it family time with us all sitting playing cards by candle light and discussing the issues and what type of a world they want to have when they grow up and what we can do to make that happen as many people making many small changes can change the world.
